Dear Commander Community,

We invite the Class of 2025 back to school tomorrow, 8/23/21, and all other students back on 8/24/21; and, we have a week full of activities in which we plan to launch the year in the spirit of our P.R.I.D.E. (professionalism, respect, inclusion, dedication, excellence).  Our goal is to ensure that all of our Commanders feel confident, valued, and prepared to begin their year. If you need extra support navigating your high school experience, please reach out to me, your advisor, your teachers, your counselor, and/or any trusted adult. See our Bell Schedule HERE and please arrive at school by 7:15 am each day to enjoy a free breakfast.

You can find our school supply list HERE and your Student Handbook HERE. If you were issued a DPS Chromebook, please bring it on Thursday. WE WILL BE ISSUING 100% OF STUDENTS A NEW DPS-ISSUED CHROMEBOOK ON THURSDAY of this week, and students will exchange their old Chromebooks for a new one during their advisory class. If you have a Chromebook from another DPS school, no worries! You can exchange that device at Kennedy this Thursday. Students will learn digital citizenship, how to care for their Chromebook, and expectations for Chromebook use this week in advisory.

Students can access their class schedule through the Student Portal starting on the first day of school. Official schedules will be distributed when students arrive on their first day of school. It is the student’s responsibility to look at the schedule to verify everything is correct. With the exception of gaps in your schedule or missing core courses, no student-initiated changes will be made to schedules after the first week of class. Students had the opportunity to complete a course request up until the first day of school. Some students may require a meeting with support staff before receiving their schedule to ensure they can start the year off with the tools they need to be successful!

Students will not be allowed to start classes without their official schedule. Students must register to receive a schedule. If you still haven't registered, please do so online or come in person to the main office on Monday between 7:30 am and 2:30 pm.

Read below for important information about the 21-22 school year and have a Commander kind of Week!

HEALTH AND SAFETY

If students are masked and vaccinated while at school, students only need to quarantine if they start experiencing symptoms. Staff and students should monitor who they are in close contact with when masks are off, especially during lunch time. Eat outside whenever possible. See COVID-19 Exposure decision tree here for more information.

Please note, students are not required to get vaccinated to return in person. However, we highly encourage our students to get vaccinated. If we can continue to increase the number of people aged 12 and older who get the vaccine, we can get closer to herd immunity, and resume the fun activities that make life as a high school student so memorable. Check out this information regarding the COVID-19 vaccination and the sites located all-around Denver.

Please read this information from our Superintendent, Dr. Marrero, for details about vaccinations, mask guidance, and safety measures.
