Dear Students, Parents, and fellow JFK community members,

Greetings! My name is Jahmari Naki Moore, and I prefer to be called “Mr. Moore” by my students. In the past, I have been called “Mr.”, “Sir”, “Mr. M”, and “Moore” as well. As we get to know each other throughout the school year, we will figure out what works best for us whenever we cross that bridge. This year, I will be teaching U.S. History (Traditional and Honors) and IB History of Americas HL 1 (Juniors).

I am originally from Westside Chicago, Illinois, but moved to Oak Park, IL for high school. Moving from Chicago to Oak Park was a difficult transition for me because of the gaps in education between one school district and another. School was very intimidating for me in High School, but there were educators who believed in me and gave me the confidence to try my best at whatever I needed to do. I would not be here without my amazing coaches and high school teachers.

I participated in football and track and field during my high school years, and because I did well in high school, both in the classroom and on the field, I received a full-ride scholarship to the University of Wyoming to play football. I played football at the University of Wyoming from 2016-2020. I played linebacker, tight end, and fullback while I was a player there. I had an amazing experience and made a ton of friends while I was there. I met some of my best friends that I still have today!

During my time in Wyoming, I studied secondary education and political science to become a high school social studies teacher. Though it was not always easy, I was able to be one of the first in my family to graduate from an accredited university with a bachelor’s degree. I made this decision because one of my coaches in high school told me on the last day of school to “pay it forward” whenever I got the chance to do so. Becoming a teacher and a coach is my way of giving back and helping others the same way I had been helped.

There is more to my story, but I will save the details for moments we will share together in the future as we get to know each other and build a strong connection. I look forward to an amazing year!

Best Wishes,

Mr. Moore
