Dear Commander Community,
We are officially beginning our fourth week of Semester 2 and I would like to take a minute to remind parents and students of the many supports you can access here at Kennedy to help you truly Take Command of Your Future:
-
Teachers host office hours every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:30 – 3
-
Tutoring is offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 – 4 in the library
-
If you want to catch up on credits, you can come to room 306 after school until 3:30 to work on your Edgenuity Courses
-
The Future Center is located in room 305, and Ms. Emily and Ms. Ambria are available to help you plan your pathway to college and apply for scholarships
-
Ms. Anne Aragon is available in our Career Connect Center to provide you with opportunities to explore career options through job shadowing, mentoring, apprenticeships, and internships
-
You can email your Counselor at any time for guidance in staying on track for graduation
-
You can connect with any member of our Social-Emotional Support team for strategies to help you cope with challenges
In advisement classes this week, your student received information about the Choice of Studies process. This is the time of year when students make their course requests for the upcoming (22-23) school year. Parents, please ask students about the COS Planning Sheet that they were given!
If your student is currently a sophomore and will be an 11th grader next year, they have the opportunity to join the IB Diploma Programme. There will be a virtual information session for interested families on Wednesday, February 2nd from 5:30-6:30 PM. The link to the session will be meet.google.com/qvj-sxec-mmz. Please click the links for the flier: English | Spanish | Vietnamese
Please read below for communication regarding the Denver Public Schools protocol for requesting temporary remote learning. We are fortunate, here at Kennedy, to have the internal and guest teaching staff to cover all staff absences; therefore, I have not yet had to request temporary remote learning. When requesting temporary remote learning, school leaders consider these priorities:
-
Safety for students and staff.
-
Continuation of instruction and social-emotional learning for all students.
-
Keeping buildings open for students to minimize disruption to families’ schedules.
Learn more about DPS' temporary remote learning process here.
COVID UPDATE:
It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents related to safety. We want to make you aware that this week, we have 9 current students or staff members that have been diagnosed with COVID-19. We have notified those people who were in close contact with these individuals.
Each case of COVID-19 is interviewed by public health. As part of this public health investigation:
If you have any concerns about your health, we encourage you to contact the Denver Health School Based Health Center at 303-602-8958 (or your primary care provider) for further evaluation and possible testing.
