Dear Commander Community,

As we move into a new semester and a new year, I find myself in a state of reflection, healing, and gratitude despite the tragedies that persist in the Denver Metro. As I awoke this morning, tired from battling COVID – 19 for the past several days and emotionally drained from the news of the fires that destroyed as many as 1,000 homes in the Superior and Louisville areas, I am reminded that community is everything. Community is what binds us together in pursuit of a greater purpose. Community is the fabric that we wrap around ourselves when we are in need of help, a shoulder to lean on, a listening ear, or a caring heart. I am grateful for our Commander Community, thank you for allowing me to grow and learn beside each of you! Please continue to reach out if you are in need of support from your Commander family.

Commanders, my commitment to you and my resolution for the New Year is to commit to LISTEN to feedback from you, our students and our families, to continuously improve as a school and a leader (see Principal feedback survey coming in the next communicator). I hope each of you had an opportunity to reflect, heal, and engage in gratitude this break. I am looking forward to taking command of 2022 with you!

REMINDERS:
Grades are final as of 12/17/21 at 4pm, grades roll to transcript on 1/6/22 at 4pm, and electronic report cards will be sent out no later than 1/13/22.

We are excited to welcome you back on January 5th for a Connecting Back to Kennedy Day. All students should arrive promptly at 7:30am to check in with their advisory teacher and receive their schedule for the day. We will resume our regular schedule with a GREEN day on 1/6/22 and a BLUE day on 1/7/22.

Check out this slide deck for details about our Cell Phone, Tardy, and Truancy Policy for Semester 2, Winter Athletics, and a visual of the schedule for the first week of Semester 2.

COVID UPDATE:
It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents related to safety. We want to make you aware that this week, we have 6 students or staff members that have been diagnosed with COVID-19. We have notified those people who were in close contact with these individuals.

Each case of COVID-19 is interviewed by public health. As part of this public health investigation:
The people diagnosed are being kept home from school until they are no longer infectious.
The people’s activities when they could have spread COVID-19 were assessed.
If you have any concerns about your health, we encourage you to contact the Denver Health School Based Health Center at 303-602-8958 (or your primary care provider) for further evaluation and possible testing.

Please continue to stay safe and mask up when in public. Our COVID numbers have been relatively low; but we do see a significant spike after we return from breaks.

Have a Commander Kind of Week!
