Dear Commander Community,

I would like to take a moment to recognize the 2,977 lives lost from over 90 nations during the 9/11/01 attacks on the World Trade Center and the first responders and armed forces that sacrificed so much during the aftermath and rescue efforts. Although our world has been changed forever, we can find solace and strength in uniting together as a community and continuing to honor, celebrate, and be inclusive of each others’ beautiful differences.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Wednesday, September 15th, and a team of teachers and staff are working to create advisory experiences and community events to celebrate our Hispanic Community Members who have contributed so much to our society.

Additionally, our Native students will be receiving personal invitations to the Native HOPE program that takes place at Kennedy on 9/16 and 9/17. On 9/16, we are proud to announce the No Hate BMX tour is coming to our Blacktop at 1:30 pm. This tour promotes anti-bullying and brings our students together for an exciting BMX presentation. We will have a modified schedule on this day as follows:

Please mark your calendar for the Homecoming events shown below that are upcoming throughout the week of 9/20, including an in-person community conversation with our Superintendent, Dr. Marrero, on September 22 at 5 PM in our auditorium.

Have a Commander Kind of Week!

GET INVOLVED

Our staff were thrilled to host some of our John F. Kennedy High School  Alumni in celebrating their 50th reunion this weekend! We took them on a tour and reminisced on their days as fourth graduating class from our school.

It’s always such a pleasure meeting our alumni. If you know any alumni, we would love to reconnect! Please send an email to Laurentz_gilmore@dpsk12.org to get involved in our alumni association.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

If students are masked and vaccinated while at school, students only need to quarantine if they start experiencing symptoms. Staff and students should monitor who they are in close contact with when masks are off, especially during lunch time. Eat outside whenever possible. See COVID-19 Exposure decision tree here for more information.

Please note, students are not required to get vaccinated to return in person. However, we highly encourage our students to get vaccinated. If we can continue to increase the number of people aged 12 and older who get the vaccine, we can get closer to herd immunity, and resume the fun activities that make life as a high school student so memorable. Check out this information regarding the COVID-19 vaccination and the sites located all-around Denver.

Please read this information from our Superintendent, Dr. Marrero, for details about vaccinations, mask guidance, and safety measures.
