A Message From Principal Almon


Dear Commanders,

The JFK Counseling Team started the Choice of Studies process this week! Choice of Studies is when students make their course requests for the 23-24 school year. 


During advisement period on Friday, students began reviewing the JFK Course Catalog, The Anchor, and filled out a planning sheet that they were instructed to bring home and share with their families. Please ask your student for this paper so that you can help them select their classes for next year. If your student lost their paper, you can make your own copy using these links:

– Class of 2024 (Current Juniors / Rising Seniors)

– Class of 2025 (Current Sophomores / Rising Juniors)

– Class of 2026 (Current Freshmen / Rising Sophomores)


Students will return their planning sheet to their social studies teacher on Wednesday (2/22). 


The class of 2024 (current juniors) will begin meeting with their counselor this week. This will occur during their IB History, IB Psychology, or world history class on either Thursday or Friday. It is critical that students are in class in order to finalize their course requests. 


The class of 2025 will meet with counselors on 3/2 or 3/3 and the class of 2026 will meet with counselors on 3/9 or 3/10. 


This is this time for students to be Advocates of Their Passions and Take Command of their Future!

over 1 million in scholarships !!!

That’s not including the money seniors will earn from the Denver Scholarship Foundation! Way to go! 

Seniors – Miss Katie is still hosting FAFSA/CASFA Workshops in the Future Center every week. Make sure to apply before February 25!

John F Kennedy High School Attendance Policies: 2022-2023
At Kennedy, we believe that every minute of instruction matters; therefore, we have created the Attendance protocol
to encourage all Commanders to be in all class periods, every day unless excused through school-related activities
or for medical reasons.

At Denver Public Schools it is essential for students to attend school daily in order to acquire the knowledge, skills,
and confidence needed to be college- and career- ready.

Attendance Expectations:
At John F Kennedy High School and in Denver Public Schools, students are expected to maintain:

● Higher than 93% attendance
● Less than 3% tardies – no more than 3 tardies
   per class per 6 weeks

Vaping Prevention – Resources for Parents 

Parents play a critical role in preventing vaping, so make time to talk with your child today. This handout has great tips for starting that conversation. Catch My Breath has great resources including a Parent Training Video (also in Spanish) and a Parent Toolkit with information on how to support your child, how to spot a vape, six signs your child may be vaping and other tools for tackling the vaping epidemic. For students needing vaping intervention, MyLifeMyQuit, is a free, confidential quit line. Additional resources for adolescents using substances can be found here.

***Safe2Tell***

DPS has been seeing a rise in the number of misused and malicious reporting on our Safe2Tell safety tip lines. The Safe2Tell tip line is not a resource for general complaints and should only be used in cases of emergency. False reports are a felony, and subject to criminal penalties according to Senate Bill 21-081. If you have a complaint, please reach out directly to the JFK leadership team directly for more information on how you can receive help or new accommodations.
