Dear Commander Community,


Jacqueline Woodson said, “Diversity is about all of us and about us having to figure out how to walk through this world together.”  The P.R.I.D.E. value for the month of November is Inclusion, and at the root of inclusion is all members of this diverse community feeling like they belong, their voices are heard, and their feedback matters. Please be on the lookout for a feedback survey that replicates the TuVoz survey and provide feedback if you have not already done so through the district TuVoz survey.

    • General Halloween information

      •  Students and staff are encouraged to wear costumes on Halloween! – no full face masks, no sunglasses, no gang related costumes, nothing that looks remotely like a weapon, no racially, culturally, etc offensive costumes 

      • Trick-or-Treat Street

        • 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm @ JFK 

  • Wednesday, November 2nd

    • JFK’s Annual College Fair

      •  @9-10am in the gym. We will have more than 30 colleges represented nationwide! This event is for all 11th and 12th graders! More information to come in an email and calendar invite.

    • Commander Conversation – Townhall 

      • 5:00 – 6:00 pm in room 226 or join us online 

  • Thursday, November 3rd 

    • Football Senior Night

      •  @ Holy Family Ceremony starts at 5:30 PM

        • Game Starts at 6:30 PM

IB registration for the May 2023 exam session is now open! Students eligible to take their exams received an email from Ms. Warren on October 13th with additional details. Be sure to submit your registration before November 11th.

WorkKeys Fall 2022 Assessment is Coming!

Students who are supposed to take the assessment, will be sent a calendar invitation from Mrs. Power through Google for the specific day you are scheduled to take the assessment. Invited Seniors will attend on 11/8/22 and Freshman will take the assessment on ONE of the following dates: November 9th, 10th, 11th, 15th, 16th OR 17th, depending on when you receive your Google Calendar Invitation. This is an exceptional opportunity only available to JFK students at this time. Take advantage of this great opportunity to fulfill your competency requirements for graduation!

Who Takes It?
All Seniors who haven’t yet demonstrated competency in English and Math and all current Freshman Commanders.

Why?
WorkKeys is a required College Board assessment. Students must score bronze or higher on each of the following three assessments to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate.
*WorkKeys Workplace Documents Test – (55 minutes)
*WorkKeys Applied Math Test (55 minutes)
*WorkKeys Graphic Literacy Test (55 minutes)
This earned certificate meets DPS high school graduation competency requirements, one of the three requirements that must be met for graduation from any DPS high school.

Testing starts at 7:30 AM in the JFK Room (room 112)

What to Bring:
Your fully charged Chromebook and a water bottle.

Take Command of Your Involvement!

Trick or Treat Street Event Information:

– Trick or Treat Street is an annual JFK tradition where we provide a safe opportunity for neighborhood kids to play games and get candy. This year, Trick or Treat Street is on October 31st from 4:30- 6:30

– We are also going to have a haunted house set up in the main hall. This haunted house is an exciting collaboration between the engineering class and Student council! 

-this is a family friendly event so bring your little ones on Monday evening! 

-Tickets are $3 for just trick or treating, $5 for both trick or treating and the haunted house 


Trick or Treat Street Booths: 

– We still have space for more clubs, sports or activities to sign up for Trick or Treat street booths! Its a great way for your group to bond and collaborate and there is still time to throw something together! Please let me know if you want a booth or have questions!

– each booth needs: 1 adult and at least 2 students to run the booth- they need to be here from 4-6:45 on the 31st. Each booth must provide a kid friendly game and at least 3 bags of candy for the booth.

Winter Sports

Winter registration is now officially open. Tryouts will begin the week of November 14th. Please reach out to Dr. Brewer for specific information on dates and times. We will offer the following sports:

  • Boys Wrestling

  • Girls Wrestling

  • Dance (Poms)

  • Boys Basketball

  • Girls Basketball, and

  • Swimming (Co-Team w/ Lincoln)

Take Command of Your Health and
 Safety!

A student’s academic success is directly linked to their health. For this reason, John F. Kennedy High School and Denver Public Schools must ensure the well-being and safety of all its students to support a positive learning environment. With the safety and well-being of all persons at JFK in mind, we request that all students and staff refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, and other fragrances and use unscented personal care products to promote a fragrance-free environment. Allergic and asthmatic patients and those with other conditions report that certain odors can trigger an episode, even in minor amounts. Some people may report mild irritation, while others are greatly hindered or must give up many ‘normal’ activities to avoid exposure. We appreciate your consideration in this matter.

Every 1st Wednesday of the month from 5-6:00 in room 226. Attending the Commander Conversation nights give our families an opportunity to learn more about what is happening at Kennedy and to ask questions and give feedback.
