A Message From Principal Almon

Dear Commander Community,

As we prepare for next week, please remember to wear redon Monday in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and carefully review the schedule shown below. Seniors, if you are not on track with your competency graduation requirement you will receive an email invite to take the Accuplacer Assessment on either 10/12 or 10/13, please check your email. 
Please plan on attending Student-Led Conferences on either 10/12 or 10/13 from 4 pm to 7 pm. If your student cannot attend with you, no problem, we will print your student’s schedule and guide you through the process. If your student can lead you through the parent/guardian conference experience, every student must bring their Chromebook to present their slide deck.   The TuVoz survey the team survey was sent to your DPS email address on Sept. 26, and the family survey can be found here.

    • *We encourage everyone to wear red in solidarity and acknowledge the stewards of Turtle Island’s land.

    • Wednesday and Thursday, October 12 & October 13, 4 – 7 pm
    • Students should bring their chromebooks will walk guardians through their class schedules showcasing their best work. *Refreshments provided

Is your junior or senior student interested in serving as an election judge during the midterms this year?

This is a paid opportunity to see democracy in action.

  • Students can earn between $16.50 and $21.00 for their time.

  • To apply, students must be at least 16 years of age, a US citizen, and be in good academic standing.

  • This role will require them to miss school on Tuesday Nov. 8th as they will be working all day at a local polling site. For more information and to apply click here. 

The midterm elections are rapidly approaching! Not sure if you’re registered to vote? Check here. Kennedy is excited that so many students will have the chance to vote for the first time this fall.
The state of Colorado encourages all eligible young people to vote. If your child is a US citizen and will be 18 by Nov. 8th, encourage them to register to vote by clicking this link or by visiting Ms. Leaf in Room 225 or in the downstairs lobby during lunch on M/T/Th through the month of October to register.
Registration forms are available in both English and Spanish. If your student is seeking volunteer hours and would like to help register students to vote, tell them to attend a voter registration interest meeting in Room 225 this Wednesday, Oct. 5. 

Black Student Alliance

Does the Black Student Alliance sound like something you want to be a part of? If so, please come to Ms. Sang’s room, room 401, on Tuesdays during lunch! Once we get more members, we’d love to buy lunch for you sometime!

Boys Volleyball Ice Cream Fundraiser 

Come out and support the Boys Volleyball team with an ICE CREAM fundraiser at Magill’s World of Ice Cream. This is a curbside fundraiser so be sure to use the code VOLLEY when ordering online, or simply state that you are supporting the boys volleyball team if you order in person. This fundraiser will be held on wednesday October 12th

There has been a ton of interest among the students, but unfortunately, we can only offer a limited number of spots. These spots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and have traditionally filled up quickly. We’ve been talking about this experience at school if you would like to ask your student for more details, as well.

We are still in the endemic phases of Covid-19 meaning we STILL need to report all cases! If your child has covid please let us know. Our nurse will reach out to parents to discuss return date and how to manage student needs when they return to the building. 


COVID vaccines will be available again next week for anyone 12 and up at our School-based Denver Health Clinic

Family Involvement

Thank you for joining us for this month’s Commander Conversation-Town Hall event. For those who could not attend, here is a link to the slides to see what topics were discussed. 

Student led conferences are coming up on October 12th and 13th from 4 – 7pm. Students will be preparing to lead conferences in advisory and in their content classes. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to embody our Professionalism and Dedication PRIDE values while truly taking ownership of their high school experience. Conferences are drop-in and we will provide light refreshments. *Translation services will be provided.

The first Commander Connection (PTSA) meeting is coming up! If you would like to volunteer to take an active role in the school and the Bear Valley community, use this link to sign up! Parents, relatives, students and staff are encouraged to sign up!
