My name is Sarah White and I am extremely excited to be taking on the role of the new ELA S teacher at Kennedy High School this year. I have been teaching high school English Language Arts for 12 years, and I love it! I speak, read, and write fluently in both English and Spanish which is a skill that serves me well as a teacher in Denver; communicating with students and their parents and family is a priority, even a necessity to support our scholars’ academic and social growth. I am not just fluent in Spanish but also very passionate about Latinx life, history, and culture, and I recognize the complexity of representing two unique ethnicities and the impact that may have on my scholars, in both positive and negative ways. I grew up in Denver and attended DPS my entire educational career, and now my daughter is following the same path. I received my Bachelors of Arts from Metropolitan State University, and my teacher license from Colorado University at Denver. I was fortunate during my time in College to learn abroad. I studied in Guadalajara, and Cuerenavaca, Mexico which was an experience that opened up my world, and exposed me to a new and beautiful culture. Becoming bilingual has supported me in my personal and professional space in countless ways, however the ability to communicate with students and families in an authentic way is truly a gift! In my free time I spend every moment with my 12 year old daughter who is my world. She keeps me up to date on the newest trends, and also keeps me on my toes with her behaviors which is part of what makes me such a good high school teacher. I look forward to getting to know the Kennedy Community, and value this opportunity to learn and grow from all of you, as I navigate this new space as a Kennedy Commander!
