A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL!

Dear Commander Community,

I hope this email finds you and your family healthy, rested, re-charged, and ready to begin the 22-23 school year. We are so excited to welcome you back, and we hope that this year is when our students and families feel a strong sense of belonging to our Commander Community.

As Commanders, we must advocate for our passions, challenge inequity, and champion change. We challenge all members of the J.F.K. community to lead with P.R.I.D.E.

  • Professionalism
  • Respect
  • Inclusion
  • Dedication
  • Excellence

Only together can we shape a more inclusive global community and take command of our future!

We are committed to providing our students with challenging, relevant, and joyous learning experiences that ignite a passion for pursuing and excelling in the post-secondary pathway of their choice. Students who pursue the IB diploma can earn 24 guaranteed transfer credits, which is an entire year of college within the state of Colorado. Our students are taking command of their future and are setting their sights on any university within the state of CO, the United States, and around the world. Our students have the opportunity to earn industry certifications in any of our FIVE Career and Technical Education pathways. Beginning with the Class of 2026, we are in candidacy to add the International Baccalaureate IB Career Programme, which would make us the first D.P.S. High School with an IB Career Programme and is an additional certificate students can add to their resume.

Please read below for more important information to start the year strong and Take Command of Your Future.

Have a Commander Kind of Day!

Being Mindful of school policies is a great way to ensure a successful year! Review updatedDress Code, Attendance, and Tardy Policies here. We believe that cell phones are a vital tool for many different reasons; however, they can become a classroom distraction.

Educating students on phone etiquette and appropriate times to use their phones is necessary.

Cell phones may not be used in any classrooms unless explicitly approved by the teacher for learning purposes, including the use of headphones.

Learning purposes include any teacher-directed activity.

2022-2023 Student Handbook

Review the 2022-2023 Student Handbook to find all the information you need for the upcoming school year. The student handbook is a one-stop shop where students and families can find all vital information about JFK. Included in the 2022-2023 Student Handbook are the updated attendance, tardy, and dress code policies.

Cell Phone Policy

We understand that cell phones are essential to our daily lives. However, they can become a distraction to the learning environment. Our policy is that cell phones are not to be used in class for purposes other than teacher-directed activities. In emergencies, families can call the Main Office (720-423-4300) to get in touch with their student(s) during the school day. They will be patched through to the appropriate classroom. Click here to find out more about our Cell Phone Policy.

We now have fewer restrictions because there are no mandates and no public health orders in place. Anyone who chooses to wear a mask may continue to do so. All students may request a mask from their school or program if they need one. Masks are strongly recommended for any staff member or student who knows they have been exposed to COVID-19 within the previous 10 days

Per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, and unlike last year, students and employees who have COVID-19 do not need to test for the virus and then get a negative rapid at-home test in order to return to school or work. We ask that symptomatic individuals please return on day six and wear a mask from day six to day 10.

Families can get immunizations and sports physicals at Denver Health’s 19 School-Based Health Centers located on school campuses.
