Dear Commander Community,

We continue to celebrate Native American Heritage Month and lift up our P.R.I.D.E. value of Dedication as we honor and recognize the accomplishments and achievements of our Native American Community. Check out these cool events in and around Denver that highlight Indigenous People.

Wth COVID cases on the rise in Denver and across the country, I would like to remind all Commanders of the protocols and safety we have in place at Kennedy:

  • Wear a mask over your nose and mouth

    1. Masks will be required for all students, visitors, and staff while in all DPS schools and buildings, regardless of vaccination status. This mask requirement includes times when staff are meeting without students, regardless of vaccination status.

    2. Masks will not be required outside, since the risk of COVID transmission is significantly lower outdoors.

    3. Monitor who you eat lunch with and eat lunch outdoors when possible.

  • Monitor your symptoms, stay home, and get a COVID test if you are feeling sick

  • If a student is in close contact with someone who has contracted the COVID-19 Virus, Nurse Shirley (shirley_sorensen@dpsk12.org) will contact the student and their family.  See COVID-19 Exposure decision tree here for more information.

  • Staff and students are exempt from quarantine if you are:

    • Fully vaccinated without symptoms. It needs to be 2 weeks since the last recommended vaccine dose.

    • Previously positive in the past 90 days and are without symptoms.

    • Both parties were wearing a mask properly over the mouth and nose at the time of exposure and without symptoms and maintained 3 foot distance between individuals for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24 hour period.

  • Denver Health School-Based Clinic is proud to offer the Pfizer COVID vaccine right here on campus.  This vaccine is available to students, families of students, and DPS staff (including 3rd dose if immunocompromised).  To get a vaccine or for more information, make an appointment at 720-423-4355 or walk-in to the clinic.  Protecting our community is our priority.

We’ve recently added to the technologies we use at John F Kennedy High School, click this link to familiarize yourself with the different tools used in our building! Please check out our technology menu HERE. Take a moment to look at the website above to view the online tools we will be using. Visit any of the websites to see what personal information the site collects. When an email address is needed, we will have your student use his or her District-provided email account when using these sites. If you do not consent to your child using any of these technology platforms, please email SEAN-MICHAEL_JONESZ@dpsk12.org.

WE NEED YOUR INPUT!! Please read this letter and provide feedback HERE on whether you believe we should shift our 22-23 School Year START TIMES in preparation for the mandated bell time shift during the 23-24 School Year: all DPS middle and high schools will begin after 8:20 am during the 23-24 School Year.

Have a Commander Kind of Week!

RESOURCES
  • Free Furniture for At Home Learning:

On Nov. 20 from 8 a.m.-noon, families with students attending school remotely are invited to the School Furniture Open Houses. During the open houses, families will be able to “shop” DPS furniture that is currently stored in the Johnson & Wales library and may select furniture to take home for free to be used for remote learning or other student needs. This opportunity is made possible through the CARES Act, bond funds and the surplus of DPS furniture that’s no longer being used. Desks, small tables, chairs, and other items are available. Remote learning families will be prioritized, but this opportunity is open to the entire DPS community. Please share this opportunity with your families.

While schools have had the opportunity to select furniture for their classrooms, school leaders and staff are still welcome to take anything else that may still be needed. Assistance with delivery is available if needed. Questions and requests for visiting outside open house dates can be directed to Kalaha Trebilcock.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Covid Cases: 11/5/21

Dear Commander Community,

It is our priority to keep you informed of incidents related to safety. We want to make you aware that 2 students or staff members have been diagnosed with COVID-19. We have notified those people who were in close contact with these individuals.

Each case of COVID-19 is interviewed by public health. As part of this public health investigation:

  • The people diagnosed are being kept home from school until they are no longer infectious.

  • The peoples’ activities when they could have spread COVID-19 were assessed.

If you have any concerns about your health, we encourage you to contact the Denver Health School Based Health Center at 303-602-8958 (or your primary care provider) for further evaluation and possible testing.

Sincerely,
JFK High School
