Dear Commander Community,

We are officially 6 weeks into the 21-22 school year. It is more critical than ever that we unite and remember that we are STronger Together as we work towards becoming the best high school in Denver Metro and living our PRIDE Values and Vision. Listed below are important ways for parents, students, and Kennedy staff to ensure that all students are on track and exhibiting P.R.I.D.E.:

  • Parents and guardians, please read attend our virtual conferences by signing up for teacher and staff meetings from 4 – 7 pm on October 13th and 14th

  • The quarter ends on 10/15, students can revise and resubmit all work on an ongoing basis up until a week prior to the end of the Semester. Get ahead of your course work and submit your assignments on time!

  • Students, attend teach office hours every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday after school from 2:30 – 3

  • Students, attend College and Career Study Block to complete homework assignments and Edgenuity every Monday through Thursday in 306 from 2:45 – 3:30

  • Kennedy has been selected to receive another round of Bond funding to upgrade our learning environments. If you would like to be on our Design Advisory Group, the group who decides how these funds will be spent, please email tiffany_almon@dpsk12.org. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to join.

  • Take Command of Your Future Month kicks off October 1st! Check out the AMAZING events taking place throughout the month of October at this link!

  • October 13th is Super Test Day! All students will report to school and will be emailed information about the specific assessments they will take or on track opportunities they will attend.

  • Give us feedback at the upcoming Commander Conversation Town Hall. Log in HERE at 5PM on Wednesday.

  • Mr. Clymers’ advisory students raised concerns about the charge for Parking Permits. They truly embodied our tenet of “challenging inequities” when they fought to dismantle our policy. All students who paid for a permit but did not paint their spot will receive a refund for their $20.

Please congratulate Kimberly Quiroga and Melanie Barba-Favela as the winners of our T-shirt contest, we will submit these designs to our clothing vendor and t-shirts will be available soon for sale in the main hall.

Rodrick Smith and Marina Pauda were chosen by staff to be featured in our mural that will be painted by Thomas “Detour” Evans on the retaining wall on Dartmouth. Congrats to these two amazing students!

A note on Vandalism: Due to the dramatic uptick in vandalism mostly due to the “Devious Licks” Tik Tok Challenges, from this point forward, if any student is caught vandalizing, they will be charged for the destroyed items, be assigned community service, and at least ½ day  in school suspension. We are also privy to the upcoming challenges, which have consequences that may include felony charges. Be smart, Commanders, and respect yourself, our staff, each other, and our school. We are not taking how we respond to these challenges lightly.

REMINDER: There is no school for students on Friday 10/15 for a Teacher Conference Exchange Day and no school for students on Monday 10/18 for Teacher Professional Learning Day.

Have a Commander Kind of Week!

HEALTH AND SAFETY

If students are masked and vaccinated while at school, students only need to quarantine if they start experiencing symptoms. Staff and students should monitor who they are in close contact with when masks are off, especially during lunch time. Eat outside whenever possible. See COVID-19 Exposure decision tree here for more information.

Please note, students are not required to get vaccinated to return in person. However, we highly encourage our students to get vaccinated. If we can continue to increase the number of people aged 12 and older who get the vaccine, we can get closer to herd immunity, and resume the fun activities that make life as a high school student so memorable. Check out this information regarding the COVID-19 vaccination and the sites located all-around Denver.

Please read this information from our Superintendent, Dr. Marrero, for details about vaccinations, mask guidance, and safety measures.
