Dear Commander Community, Thank you to everyone who attended our virtual Town Hall on Wednesday, December 9th! We covered a lot of crucial information in regards to the potential return to in-person next semester. You can view the slides from the presentation here and the return to in person updates begin on slide 32. You can also look at our Q&A document to see what questions came up during the town hall. We understand that this is a lot of information to share and much of it is confusing. This is a complicated situation but we want to do our best to explain possible options for the semester 2 schedule. Timeline: The timeline for the return to in person will take place between January 19th and February 1st. We will begin a gradual return between January 19 - 29 including time for health and safety orientation days. All students who chose in person will return by 2/1/20. In person return is dependent upon COVID conditions. Option 1 Overview: Students may have to remain in the same classroom all day with the possibility of only receiving in person instruction from only one of their scheduled teachers during a given time period. This option may result in an early release schedule for in person learning due to staffing issues. Option 2 Overview: This option would give us the opportunity to have smaller classes sizes and allow students to rotate to their classes during their in-person days. Students will not be able to leave for lunch *Please see the slides for more details! No matter which option we decide upon we want you to know that we will keep these priorities and our students’ best interests at the forefront. Our priorities include:
The biggest factor we must all take into consideration is that no matter which option we move forward with, the schedule can look very different depending on how many students we have returning in person. That is why it is crucial that our families make sure their Semester 2 Learning Preference is up to date. The deadline to request a change to your current learning option is Sunday, December 13th and you can do so by:
This information is crucial for us in making this decision. Although our families are expected to make a decision prior to the finalization of our schedule, we will be flexible and allow families to change their decision on their learning option at the end of quarter 3. Remember, whether you choose virtual or in person, JFK will remain one school and we will not be limiting options for students who choose to continue with remote learning. IIf you have any questions about this, please email me at tiffany_almon@dpsk12.org. Have a great Finals week, Commanders, YOU GOT THIS! |
