Commander Communicator – 8/31

Dear Commander Community,

Thank you so much for logging in for your first week of school. We had 842 individual students log in out of our 882 students. We are shooting for 100% engagement; therefore, if you were not able to log in, you should receive a phone call from a JFK Staff member, as we are committed to ensuring all of our students are able to connect and engage in our classes. We also had several students attend our Class Meetings where students had an opportunity to meet members of the Student Council and our Administrative team, to learn about some exciting events Student Council is planning, and to participate in a team building game.  Please make an effort to attend these Class Meetings when they are scheduled, as this is one more way to stay connected to each other and to what is happening through the school.

Students, we will be hosting a drive up supply pick up in the student lot from 8AM - 4PM on Wednesday the 2nd and from noon to 6PM on Thursday the 3rd. All students should make arrangements to drive through the pick up, as we are distributing general school supplies and course specific school supplies that you will need to participate in courses.

Parents, we want to meet you, get your feedback, and answer your questions! Please attend our Town Halls scheduled on Wednesdays from 5 - 6 PM by following this link. The Town Hall on Wednesday September 9th will include our Title 1 School and Signs of Suicide Presentation. This will be a great one to attend!

Hopefully you’ve noticed that we are using online tools to increase student interaction with the lesson during your live synchronous classes. We require that parents and guardians give their consent to utilize these online platforms with our students; therefore, we are asking the 100% of parents and guardians complete this form (1 per household) consenting that we can use online platforms for learning. Click here for the ENGLISH form and here for the SPANISH form. Please complete by 9/11/20.

Please read the updates below for more important information and remember that next week's schedule is BLUE, GREEN, BLUE, GREEN, BLUE. ALL STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE A SCHEDULED MATH COURSE, must log onto their Study Hall (Math Mastery Movement)period from 2:25pm to 3:05pm on Monday.  I am sure you are all extremely excited to take a break from your laptop screen for the weekend! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND and, as always, Commander Community, WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER.

With love and gratitude,
Tiffany Almon
Proud Principal
  • SCHEDULE: Here is a "How To Get to Class in a Remote World" guide in English and Spanish. You can check your Student Portal for your schedule so you know which period you need to attend each class. Check out our block schedule here. If you can't remember if it is a green day or a blue day, please check the homepage banner of

  • Attendance Policy: Our attendance policy has been updated this year in order to accommodate school in a remote world. You can read the policy here. Remember, if you are unable to attend your class, please contact your teacher explaining why so that you will not get marked as absent.

  • Supply Pick-Up: Some courses require hard copy materials, textbooks and/or additional supplies in order for students to fully engage with the content. We will be offering days and times for students and families to pick up the materials needed for certain courses. Also, ALL students may pick up pencils, pens, erasers, loose-leaf paper, a math graph composition notebook, highlighters, and sticky notes to be used for all their classes free of charge. If you missed any of the previous town halls meetings you can view the Virtual Town Hall Q&A Document here.

  • 100% Virtual Option: We wanted to clarify that choosing the 100% virtual option in your Annual Family Update means you are only electing for 100% virtual learning through December. Also, if you have selected 100% virtual learning but you change your mind and would like to attend school in-person once we resume you do not have to change your Annual Family Update. You can just send your child to school as you normally would! We are still working out a solution for the situation that you have selected in-person and would like to shift to 100% virtual.

  • Health and Safety Requirements for in-person learning:  In partnership with CDPHE, DPS has identified Health and Safety requirements, including the wearing of masks, handwashing, and other specific notes, that will be in place when we are in the hybrid and full-time in-person learning contexts.  Information is available on the DPS website.
