With the health and safety of our students and team members at the heart of this decision, DPS leadership has made the choice to continue remote learning for the rest of the 2019-20 school year. This means our schools will not reopen this school year for in-person classes.
This is a very difficult and painful decision, but one that’s made out of doing what we know is best for our community.
Today’s decision means that all athletic events, extracurricular activities, and proms are cancelled. In addition, playgrounds and athletic fields are closed until further notice to reinforce social distancing and prevent further spread of the virus. Unfortunately, this decision includes the postponement of in-person graduation ceremonies as well. We will do everything we can to reschedule these celebrations when health officials allow gatherings again, and we will find ways to honor the wonderful Class of 2020. In collaboration with families and students, JFK staff are planning creative ways to celebrate and convene as a community virtually.
Student engagement and providing equitable opportunities for 100% of our students to participate meaningfully in remote learning is a TOP priority. If you received a call from a JFK Staff member to pick up a device at JFK on Monday 4/6 from 10am to 2pm, please come to JFK to pick up your Chromebook and charger.
If you did not receive a call yet, we have not forgotten about you, but have simply run out of Chromebooks at JFK. There will be another opportunity to pick up a Chromebook and charger at Abraham Lincoln HS or Valverde Elementary School between 10:30am-1pm on Tuesday, April 7th and Wednesday, April 8th. Please take advantage of this if you still need access to technology. JFK staff will be calling families who we haven’t been contacted yet on Monday, April 6th as a reminder of this opportunity.
There will be a list of the students who are able to pick up Chromebooks from these schools. If you have already received a computer from JFK, you will not be added to this list as we need to keep this option open for our families who still need access to technology. You will need to provide your student’s name and ID number in order to receive your Chromebook.
CDPHE approved guidelines will be put in place during distribution including outdoor distribution, use of gloves and disinfecting every device before passing it over to the family or into their vehicle trunk.
Remember that Remote Learning begins on Tuesday 4/7, check your DPS email and our website for all updates. There will be no penalty for late work submitted in the first two weeks of remote learning. We are here to support each and every one of you!
