JFK 'Builds a Better Math' with Construction Technology Class

"What am I going to use this for?" It's a big question for many students, particularly those who aren't too excited about mathematics. So what will a student do with the math concepts they are working so hard to understand? John F. Kennedy High School instructor Susan Martin is helping kids answer that question every day. After a 24-year career in construction trades, Martin moved into teaching. And for the last four years, she has taught construction technology to JFK students, showcasing exactly how they will use math in real-world situations. Watch this video to see how this course is helping students fall in love with math in very a hands-on way.

2013-14 Winter Weather Information

The decision to keep schools open or to close them during winter weather conditions is not a simple one, but it is made with one overriding factor in mind: the well-being of our students, their families and staff. It is a good idea to decide in advance how to best keep up with the changes, what childcare arrangements are needed, and how to adjust if schools closed due to inclement weather. Detailed DPS winter weather and snow day information, including information on how families can find out if school is closed, can be found on the transportation website transportation website or on the DPS website.
