High School of Business - JFK

On August 6th, High School of Business students Alex Morales and Summer Pilling were guest presenters at the Columbine Kiwanis Club in Littleton. The presentation was the first in what will be an ongoing effort to let the community know about this unique CTE pathway. Members learned about High School of Business, the CTE pathway concept, the pedagogy behind the classes, project-based learning, and concurrent enrollment opportunities. We believe that developing community awareness is the first step in achieving our goal of building a positive working relationship with business and community. High School of Business students will be developing a marketing plan as part of the project-based learning curriculum.

JFK 'Builds a Better Math' with Construction Technology Class

"What am I going to use this for?" It's a big question for many students, particularly those who aren't too excited about mathematics. So what will a student do with the math concepts they are working so hard to understand? John F. Kennedy High School instructor Susan Martin is helping kids answer that question every day. After a 24-year career in construction trades, Martin moved into teaching. And for the last four years, she has taught construction technology to JFK students, showcasing exactly how they will use math in real-world situations. Watch this video to see how this course is helping students fall in love with math in very a hands-on way.

2013-14 Winter Weather Information

The decision to keep schools open or to close them during winter weather conditions is not a simple one, but it is made with one overriding factor in mind: the well-being of our students, their families and staff. It is a good idea to decide in advance how to best keep up with the changes, what childcare arrangements are needed, and how to adjust if schools closed due to inclement weather. Detailed DPS winter weather and snow day information, including information on how families can find out if school is closed, can be found on the transportation website transportation website or on the DPS website.

Unified Basketball, similar to Special Olympics programs, partners special needs students with peer assistants to help them learn, enjoy, and compete in the game of basketball. JFK teachers Terry Bredehoft, Tom Lynch, and student-coach Salvador Gamez coached the JFK squad. Mollie Pitrone and Jessica Riconti coached the TJ Spartan team.
